Indian High Commissioner pays courtesy call on Deputy Speaker

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has paid a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Barrister Kayser Kamal. This meeting was held at the office of the Deputy Speaker in the National Parliament Building on Wednesday (September 2).

Various issues of increasing mutual cooperation including bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India, parliamentary diplomacy, use of information technology and modernisation of parliamentary activities were discussed in the meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, Dinesh Trivedi praised the architectural style of the National Parliament Building.

Highlighting the historical and friendly relations between Bangladesh and India, he said the two countries are bound by the bond of shared history, culture, heritage and mutual interests. He emphasized increasing parliamentary contact and cooperation to further strengthen this relationship. The Indian High Commissioner said regular contact, exchange of views and mutual visits among the Members of Parliament of the two countries can play an important role in further strengthening bilateral relations.

At that time Barrister Kayser Kamal mentioned the Parliament of India as a modern parliament and said Bangladesh has also taken the initiative to introduce the e-Parliament system. He expected India’s experience and cooperation in its successful implementation. The Deputy Speaker also expressed the hope that further opportunity of cooperation will be created in parliamentary contact of the two countries and modernisation of Bangladesh’s parliamentary system by utilising the experience of Dinesh Trivedi.

Both sides expressed the expectation of further strengthening the bilateral relations of the two countries by prioritising the welfare of the people, expanding the fields of cooperation and consolidating mutual trust and confidence in the meeting. At that time Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and other concerned senior officials were present.
