Indian High Commissioner's stance positive: Information Adviser

Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman views as positive the Indian High Commissioner's acknowledgement that there are some unresolved issues between Bangladesh and India.

He made the remark in response to journalists' questions about the recent meeting with the Indian High Commissioner at the weekly briefing at the Information Department conference room on Tuesday afternoon, September 15.

When asked about the Indian High Commissioner's reaction to various issues raised by Bangladesh at the meeting, Zahed Ur Rahman said he had listened to the issues and acknowledged that there are some issues between the two countries. According to the adviser, there is scope to view the Indian High Commissioner's position positively.

However, the Information Adviser said the Indian High Commissioner emphasised increasing relations and communication between the two countries despite the unresolved issues.

Zahed Ur Rahman said the Indian High Commissioner stressed improving relations and increasing mutual communication. He tried to convey on behalf of the Bangladesh government and people that there are sensitivities among the people of Bangladesh on certain issues, and a positive role from India is important in these matters.

In this context, he raised the issue of anger created in Bangladesh centring a press conference by Sheikh Hasina. He said another press conference involving the Awami League was cancelled after that press conference. He believes India's role is important in some such cases.

The Information and Broadcasting Adviser expressed hope that the Indian High Commissioner would work positively on the sensitive issues existing in the relations between the two countries.
