Indication of low pressure forming in Bay of Bengal within 24 hours

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said a low pressure may form over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-Bangladesh coastal area within the next 24 hours. At the same time, it has forecast rain and thunderstorms in different regions of the country.

This information was given in a forecast signed by meteorologist Md Shaheenul Islam on Saturday (August 22).

The Meteorological Department said the monsoon wind over Bangladesh is fairly active and remains in moderate condition over the north Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions in the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur at places.

During this period, day and night temperatures across the country may fall slightly.

From the evening of August 23 for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershowers may occur at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over other divisions. Moderate heavy rainfall may occur at places. Day temperature may fall slightly while night temperature may remain almost unchanged.

On August 24, rain may occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Dhaka divisions. There is also a possibility of moderate heavy rainfall at places.

On August 25, rain or thundershowers may occur at many places over Rangpur, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Khulna divisions. On August 26 also, there is a possibility of rain at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over other divisions of the country.

The Meteorological Department said the tendency of rainfall in the country may continue for the next five days.
