Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi shot
Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 in the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election, has been shot.
The incident took place while Hadi was campaigning in the capital’s Bijoynagar area on Friday afternoon (December 12).
He was taken to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries, confirmed Israfill Forayezi, an organiser of July Oikya.
Nasir Uddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), condemned the attack, saying their lives are also at risk but they remain determined to continue their movement.
In a Facebook post, DUCSU VP Sadik Kayem alleged that the attack was carried out by gang elements and called on students and residents of the capital to “prepare for an uprising to free Dhaka from extortionists and gangsters.”
DMP Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid said they had received reports of the incident and dispatched a team to verify the details.
Hadi had earlier claimed in November that he received multiple death and assault threats from various local and foreign phone numbers. In a Facebook post on November 14, he alleged threats of arson attacks on his home and assaults on his family members.
