Inmate dies after falling ill at Dhaka Central Jail

An inmate at Dhaka Central Jail has died after becoming ill, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The deceased, Abdul Khaleque, 65, was the son of the late Kafil Uddin. According to prison guard Abdullah, Khaleque fell sick while inside the jail. Following instructions from jail authorities, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 12:30am, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Khaleque’s prison identification number was 6718/A, though officials did not reveal details about the case under which he had been detained.

Inspector Md Faruk, who oversees the police camp at the hospital, said the body has been placed in the morgue for an autopsy. A medico-legal report will be prepared in the presence of an executive magistrate. After all required procedures are completed, prison authorities will hand over the body to his family.
