A 38-year-old inmate of Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) died early Sunday morning after being admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious state.

Md. Sohel Ahmed, from Bonbaria village in Ashulia Upazila, Sirajganj, suddenly fell ill at the jail and was taken to DMCH around 8:15 a.m. Despite efforts by emergency doctors, he was pronounced dead.

Prison guard Saymon said Sohel became critically ill at the jail, prompting guards to take him to the hospital under prison authority orders.

Md. Faruk, officer in charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body is in the hospital morgue awaiting a post-mortem. An executive magistrate will oversee the autopsy, after which the body will be handed over to the family.

Details of the case for which Sohel was imprisoned have not been disclosed.
