Innocent Chhatra League activists can join NCP: Nahid Islam
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that political past is not the priority; rather, current ideology and a clean image will determine who can join the party. He even remarked that innocent Chhatra League activists can join the NCP.
Nahid made these remarks at a press conference at the party's temporary central office in Banglamotor, capital, on Sunday afternoon, April 19. The event was organised to welcome leaders and activists from various political parties and organisations into the NCP.
Nahid Islam said, "Whether someone was previously in Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Adhikar Parishad or Chhatra League – that is not the main issue for the NCP. Those who join the NCP from today will work as leaders and activists upholding the NCP's ideology."
However, he outlined a strict stance regarding inclusion in the party, stating that the doors of the NCP will remain closed to those who participated in fascism, were involved in or supported genocide, and those accused of extortion and corruption.
Criticising the current political situation, the NCP convener said the government is destroying the opportunities created through reforms and the referendum. In his words, "Through this election, only one party has replaced another, but no structural change has taken place."
He further alleged that extortion, corruption and terrorism are increasing in the country, and the people's verdict is being ignored. He emphasised the need to build an alternative political force in this situation.
