Inqilab Mancha issues 24-hour ultimatum for home adviser's resignation
The Inqilab Mancha has issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of the home adviser over the death of its spokesperson, Sharif Osman Hadi. The announcement was made at a gathering of students and the public at Shahbagh in the capital on Saturday afternoon, following Hadi's burial.
Speakers at the rally stated that the death of Sharif Osman Hadi is not an isolated incident but a manifestation of the extreme failure of the country's law and order situation. They alleged that such killings have occurred due to weaknesses in the security system. In this context, an ultimatum was given for Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury to resign within the next 24 hours.
The speakers further warned that if he does not step down within the stipulated time, more severe programmes would be announced involving students and the general public. They also demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi and the swift arrest of the culprits.
Earlier, at around 3:30 pm, Sharif Osman Hadi was buried beside the mausoleum of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, adjacent to the central mosque of the University of Dhaka.
Among those present at the burial were the chief organiser (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), Hasnat Abdullah; Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan; editor of the daily Amar Desh, Mahmudur Rahman; leaders from various levels of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU); and members of Hadi's family.
