Inqilab Mancha reinstated its sit-in programme blocking Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon (December 27), following BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s visit to the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi.

The blockade resumed around 12:30pm, with leaders and activists demanding justice for Hadi’s killing.

Earlier in the morning, the group had temporarily lifted the blockade due to Tarique Rahman’s arrival and security concerns, relocating briefly to the area in front of Aziz Super Market at Dhaka University.

Witnesses said protesters returned to Shahbagh and restarted the blockade once Tarique’s motorcade left the area.

The platform launched the “indefinite” programme after Friday prayers, maintaining a presence at Shahbagh overnight. A significant police and law enforcement deployment remains in the area.

Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, said, “Our street movement will continue until justice for Hadi’s killing is ensured. We will not return home without justice.”

Sharif Osman Hadi, the platform’s spokesperson, was critically injured in a shooting on Paltan’s Box Culvert Road on December 12. He was taken to Singapore for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on December 18. The case, initially filed as attempted murder at Paltan Police Station, was later upgraded to a regular murder case.
