Intercity bus services across Bangladesh will operate normally on February 11, the day before the national elections, the Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association confirmed Sunday (February 8).

Most services are expected to remain suspended on February 12, the polling day, the association said.

Association Chairman Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said that while buses will run on February 11, ticket demand has been moderate so far, with February 10 typically seeing higher travel pressure. On election day, there is no formal ban on bus operations, but many drivers and staff are likely to be absent to vote.

Services may resume later in the evening after polling concludes, he added.

The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry has also issued restrictions on taxis, pickups, minibuses, and trucks for 24 hours on February 12. Motorcycles will face a 72-hour ban from midnight February 10 to midnight February 13.

Exceptions will apply for law enforcement, emergency vehicles, newspapers, and medical supply transport. District magistrates and metropolitan police commissioners have the authority to adjust these restrictions as necessary.
