Interim Government constitutionally legal: Attorney General
Attorney General Dr Md Asaduzzaman has observed that the current interim government under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus is constitutionally legal and everything is in compliance with the law.
Talking to reporters at his Supreme Court office on Thursday (September 12), Asaduzzaman said, “Constitutionally, the interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus is legitimate. Written approval has been given by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court before the formation of the government. So far, the government is doing everything according to the constitution.”
The Attorney General said, "It is very important to amend the Constitution to reduce the power of the prime minister and increase the power of the president. Along with increasing the power of the Chief Justice, the reform of the judiciary is also necessary for the judges to work independently.”
Commenting that Article 70 of the Constitution is destroying the balance of power, the AG said, "Amendment of this article is necessary. I personally want Article 70 of the Constitution to be revised. If Article 70 is reviewed, the fascist regime will not be able to return.”
Asaduzzaman said the reform initiative has been taken to bring balance to the law, governance and judiciary. The Yunus-led interim government is doing everything in accordance with the constitution so far. Before the formation of this government, written validation has been given by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Besides, he also commented that the proposal made by BNP Acting Chairperson Tariq Rahman on the introduction of a bicameral governance system is timely.
