A free, fair, credible and festive atmosphere prevails in the country on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament elections and referendum, said Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Adviser to the interim government.

He spoke to reporters after exercising his voting rights at the Scholars International School and College center located in the capital's Baridhara DOHS at 10:30 am on Thursday (February 12).

Terming the day as very important, he expressed hope that the countrymen will witness a beautiful and festive election.

Expressing satisfaction with the security situation across the country, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that so far, the administration has not received any news of any untoward incident like occupying a polling station anywhere in the country.

As members of the law enforcement agencies are active at the field level, the voting process is being conducted without any major chaos.

Responding to reporters' questions about allegations of one person voting for another, he said, "This time, the possibility of one person voting for another is very low. Even then, if there is evidence or video of such an incident, give it to us; we will strictly investigate the matter and take necessary action."

He said that the security ring formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission is maintaining close surveillance in every district of the country, including the capital. The adviser also clarified that the government will not compromise in ensuring the people's right to vote and protecting the sanctity of polling stations.

He also said that all kinds of preparations have been made to implement the promise made by the government to organize a free, fair and credible election. The festive presence of voters is a reflection of their trust in the current electoral system.

Long queues of voters have been observed at various centers in the capital since this morning. The voting of the chief advisor and other senior officials has further enlivened the election atmosphere.

Giving instructions to maintain security arrangements even after the election, the Home Affairs Adviser said that everyone should be vigilant to prevent any unwanted violence until the results are announced.

He also urged the countrymen to participate in this democratic festival with patience and discipline.
