The interim government indulged mobs, said Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor.

He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the Information Directorate (PID) conference room at the Secretariat on Wednesday (April 15).

Dr. Zahed said that punishing anyone through mobs or mob lynching is completely illegal. The only power to prosecute crimes belongs to the state, not any individual or group.

He warned that the tendency to take the law into one's own hands is creating terrible anarchy in the society.

He also said that the wrong message was sent to the society due to indulgence in these incidents in the past. Now the government is working to suppress these crimes with a 'zero tolerance' policy. Mass lynching is not acceptable under any circumstances and those involved in such incidents will be brought to justice.

Outlining the government's position, he said that if there is administrative weakness, it will be removed. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to work more effectively. Any crime or complaint should be reported to the law enforcement agencies.
