Interim govt to hand over power by Feb 18: Press Secretary
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiul Alam has stated that the power handover process will be completed in the shortest possible time. He said the entire process could be finished within three days. That is, the handover could occur by February 15 or 16. The government will not take longer than February 17 or 18 for this, he said.
The Press Secretary made these remarks at a news conference on Thursday afternoon, February 5.
He said that after the newly elected Members of Parliament take their oaths, the leader of the majority party will be invited to take the oath as the new Prime Minister. Following this, the interim government will hand over responsibilities to the elected representatives.
Shafiul Alam said the current interim government will have no role in the operations of the subsequent government formed by the elected MPs. The handover will take place immediately after the election concludes and once the oath-taking of the MPs is completed. The government's goal is to finish this process as quickly as possible.
At the news conference, the Press Secretary said that extrajudicial killings, which were staged like dramas in the past in Bangladesh, are not occurring now. Those who were involved in such activities in the past are being held accountable and brought to justice.
He said a major responsibility of the interim government was to prepare the country for holding elections. Additionally, the 'July Charter' has been formulated to set the state system on a path to effective reform. This July Charter is currently presented in the national referendum. He expressed hope that the people will deliver its outcome through the election on February 12.
The Press Secretary further said that Bangladesh's politics and state administration were previously monopolised by two or three individuals. A significant change has now occurred in that regard.
He also informed that the advisers will disclose their asset statements just before the government's term ends.
