Investigation report delayed for 122nd time in Sagar–Runi murder case
The investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi was delayed for the 122nd time, as the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) again failed to submit the report to the Dhaka CMM Court.
The PBI, now handling the case, has been given January 5, 2025, as the new submission date, confirmed by Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Inspector of the DMP Prosecution Division.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam has set the new date today (November 30).
A decade after the killing, the PBI took over the investigation on November 4 last year, receiving all relevant documents from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and reopening the case.
PBI Additional SP Md. Azizul Haque, who leads the probe, said the agency would restart the investigation after reviewing all RAB documents.
On February 11, 2012, Sagar, the news editor of Maasranga Television, and Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered in their rented apartment at West Rajabazar in Dhaka.
