IPL issue not affecting India-Bangladesh trade: Trade Adviser
Adviser Ministry of Commerce, Sk. Bashir Uddin has said that the IPL issue is not having any negative impact on business between India and Bangladesh, and various trade activities with India are continuing normally.
He made the remarks on Sunday after a meeting at the Secretariat regarding the new import policy order. He said, “We believe in liberal trade. Our liberal trade practices are operational with all countries around the world. As long as domestic trade is not disrupted, we do not take any country-specific bilateral decisions.”
He also said that the impact of various trade measures with India is being assessed, and overall, the country remains committed to liberal trade.
At the same time, Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman said, “Routine events do not significantly affect bilateral trade. However, last May, India closed some land ports, reducing exports from Bangladesh. Still, we did not take any countermeasures.”
Regarding the suspension of jute exports to India, he added, “This step was taken to maintain our country’s internal supply and distribution, not to harm any other country. Our policies are always designed with the focus on domestic trade.”
