'Is this a question or a lecture from Paltan': Home Minister responds to Hasnat's query

In the national parliament, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has dismissed a supplementary question from Cumilla-4 MP Hasnat Abdullah, comparing it to a "lecture from Paltan" rather than a legitimate parliamentary query.

The incident took place during the third session of parliament on Thursday, August 27.

Hasnat Abdullah raised the issue of the ban on music, cinema and boat racing in Brahmanbaria, also questioning the overall law and order situation. He asked whether the Home Minister had succeeded in improving law and order and establishing the rule of law in his six months in office.

In response, the Home Minister said, "Mr Speaker, I could not understand whether this is a question or a lecture from Palton."

He said that whether law and order had improved was visible. Those involved in crimes committed since the current government took office had been arrested within 24 to 48 hours and brought under the law.

The Home Minister said that if there were specific questions regarding any particular incident, they could be raised in parliament, and he would be able to provide details under Rule 300 of the Constitution. He stated that claims such as "law enforcement agencies have failed" should be based on facts and data in parliament.

Regarding the crime statistics presented by Hasnat Abdullah, Salahuddin Ahmed said he did not know on what basis those figures were provided. He called for the presentation of specific data on murder and other crimes.

The Home Minister also said that from the Ramisa incident to the recent four murders in Rangpur, police and law enforcement agencies had swiftly arrested those involved and brought them to justice. "So, where has the failure occurred? It must be specified," he said.

He added that it was the responsibility of the judiciary to try criminals. However, law enforcement agencies and the Home Ministry were providing necessary assistance to ensure speedy trials.
