BNP candidate Ishraque Hossain on Saturday accused a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate contesting the Dhaka-6 constituency of stockpiling firearms and illegal materials at a polling centre ahead of the national election.

Ishraque lodged the allegation at the Election Commission Secretariat around noon, submitting a written complaint to EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Ishraque claimed that on February 4, supporters of Jamaat candidate Abdul Mannan had stored a large quantity of fake ballot papers, seals, locally made sharp weapons, machetes, cricket stumps and hockey sticks at the Cosmopolitan School and College polling centre.

He further alleged that despite informing the officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station, the materials were neither seized nor properly investigated, and that the items were instead removed without legal action.

Citing concerns over a free and fair election, Ishraq demanded the immediate removal of the presiding authorities of the polling centre as well as the Sutrapur police chief, urging the Election Commission to take prompt action to ensure electoral integrity.
