Islami Bank's newly appointed chairman Md. Khurshid Alam is not being removed from his post, said Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan.

Meanwhile, a group of people protested in front of the bank's head office in Motijheel, Dhaka, under the banner of the Islami Bank Customer Forum, demanding the cancellation of the appointment of the new chairman on Monday morning (June 1). Later, the police used lathicharge, water cannon, tear gas and sound grenades to disperse them. Several people were reported injured in this.

Regarding the continuation of the newly appointed chairman of Islami Bank in his post in the face of the ongoing movement, Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said, "It has nothing to do with the movement. If Bangladesh Bank takes a decision today due to this movement, then if another group protests against that decision, what will Bangladesh Bank do? Therefore, Bangladesh Bank will proceed at its own pace. It has no involvement in the movement. There is no possibility of changing the decision of Bangladesh Bank through the movement.’

Bangladesh Bank appointed former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Md. Khurshid Alam as the chairman of Islami Bank on the night of May 24. Earlier that day, in the wake of the movement of a group of individuals identified as some customers and officials of the bank, Chairman M. Zubaidur Rahman, who was appointed to Islami Bank during the interim government, resigned. The MD of the bank is also on a long leave.
