Islamist alliance march to Jamuna; only top leaders proceed to CA's office

Police stopped a procession of the Islami 8 Alliance near Matsya Bhaban in Dhaka as leaders marched toward Jamuna to submit a memorandum with five demands, including holding a referendum before the national election and implementing the July National Charter.

However, the top leaders of the alliance are proceeding to the Chief Adviser’s Office to submit the memorandum.

Top leaders carrying the memorandum included Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Prof. Mia Golam Porwar, Assistant Secretary General A H M Hamidur Rahman Azad, Khelafat Majlish Naib-e-Amir Ahmad Ali Qasemi, and JAGPA Vice President Rashed Pradhan.

The march began from Paltan around 12:15pm Thursday (November 6) and joined by thousands of activists from Shapla Chattar and other areas. After a brief rally at Purana Paltan, leaders proceeded toward the Chief Adviser’s Office.

Their five-point demand includes implementing the July National Charter and holding a referendum within November, introducing proportional representation in Parliament, ensuring a level playing field, prosecuting crimes of the past government, and banning activities of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance and Jatiya Party.

The alliance comprises Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon, Nezame Islam Party, JAGPA, and Bangladesh Development Party.
