Miscreants have hacked and injured Khandakar Lutfur Rahman, president of a faction of the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA). The attack took place around 8 pm on Monday (September 1) on Bijoynagar Road in the capital.

Zakir Hossain, general secretary of the faction, said that Lutfur Rahman attended a meeting at the Ganadhikar Parishad office on Monday night. As he was crossing the road after the meeting, a group of assailants attacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured and causing severe bleeding. He was immediately taken to Islami Hospital in Kakrail.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condemned the attack, saying in a statement that assaults on political leaders are part of a deep conspiracy. He alleged that such incidents are aimed at disrupting the upcoming election. He demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers and that they be brought under the law.

It may be noted that Lutfur Rahman is the president of a JAGPA faction, and his party is a member of the BNP-backed nationalist alliance.
