Jahangirnagar University pro-VCs relieved, replacements named
The government has made significant changes to the administration and education wings of Jahangirnagar University by relieving the existing two pro-vice-chancellors and appointing two new ones. Dr Md Shamsul Alam and Dr Muhammad Nazbul Islam have been given the new responsibilities.
The orders were issued through four separate notifications from the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education on Saturday, June 6, with the approval of the President and Chancellor.
According to the ministry notifications, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Dr M Mahfuzur Rahman and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Dr Sohel Ahmed have been relieved from their posts. They will return to their original positions as professors in the Department of Botany and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, respectively.
The vacant positions have been filled by new appointments. Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Professor of Government and Politics, has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), and Dr Muhammad Nazbul Islam (mentioned as Muhammad Nazrul Islam in the copy), Professor of Mathematics, has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
According to the appointment conditions, the new pro-VCs will remain in their posts for four years from the date of joining or until their retirement, whichever comes first. They will receive the same salary and allowances as their current positions.
They must remain on campus full-time, and the Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
