Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has expressed strong displeasure and condemned the behaviour of some members of the treasury bench during the speech of Rumeen Farhana, member of parliament for the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency.

The Leader of the Opposition raised a point of order during the session of parliament presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal on Sunday afternoon, April 19, expressing his strong displeasure and condemnation.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, "When a member of parliament speaks, the sole authority to control them or allow them to speak rests with the honourable Speaker. Today, I observed that when an independent member of parliament (Rumeen Farhana) was speaking, some honourable members of the treasury bench unfortunately made gestures that hurt my conscience. I do not expect such behaviour."

He further said, "I have also noticed that some members who have been elected to parliament four or five times have also done this. I do not wish to name them here and embarrass myself. From the very first day, we have requested that a good culture be practised here; we want to learn and also inspire the nation."

The Leader of the Opposition said, "Honourable Speaker, I observed twice today that those on the treasury bench who are supposed to cooperate with you the most repeatedly ignored your requests and continued their behaviour. Even when you did not give them the microphone, we cannot understand what is happening in parliament."

Drawing the Speaker's attention, he said, "The behaviour displayed when honourable member Rumeen Farhana was speaking is completely unacceptable. I express my sorrow and am compelled to condemn it."
