Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has raised questions over the delayed announcement of results in several constituencies of the national parliamentary election.

Speaking at a press conference at the party's central office in Mogbazar, Dhaka around 11:45 pm on Thursday, he said, "As far as we know, we are leading in several constituencies and the counting has also been completed. But the local returning officers are not announcing the results; they have kept them suspended. We cannot understand why?"

He alleged, "The number of seats each party had won was published on the website, but later it disappeared. Our people have been made to sit idle for long periods. Unofficial results of 10-12 centres were announced a short while ago."

Regarding the delay in results, he said, "A cat-and-mouse game is going on in some constituencies. Why should even Dhaka-8 seat remain hanging? Journalists know what is happening there. These matters do not reflect healthy politics."
