The statement made by Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abdul Muntakim in the National Parliament, claiming to be the 'son of a martyred freedom fighter', has been excluded from the Parliament's minutes.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed informed this in the National Parliament session today.

Standing on a point of order in the Parliament today, BNP MP from Kishoreganj-2 constituency Md. Jalal Uddin raised the issue and demanded that the untrue statement be expunged from the Parliament's minutes.

In response, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that Abdul Muntakim met the Speaker and told him that it was a mistake to blurt out and that he had admitted that his father was alive.

The Speaker said that it was a 'slip of the tongue' or an unintentional mistake, so the statement will be expunged from the Parliament's minutes.

While participating in the budget discussion on June 14, this member of the Nilphamari-4 constituency claimed that his father and grandfather were martyred in the Liberation War. However, according to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he was born in 1981—that is, 10 years after the Liberation War. In addition, when news was published in various media outlets that his father was alive, widespread criticism began on social media.
