Jamaat warns of tough protest if any conspiracy over election verdict
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair has warned that the 11-party United Bangladesh Alliance will launch a tough movement if there is any conspiracy to manipulate or delay the publication of the people’s electoral verdict or any attempt to reinstate what he termed the “old fascism.”
He made the remarks around 4:00am on Friday (February 13) at the Election Commission building in Agargaon.
Zubair alleged that the vote-counting process had been unusually delayed and claimed that returning officers altered the results.
According to him, such steps were taken to favor a particular political party.
“If there is any tampering or delay regarding the people’s verdict, we will resist with full force,” he said. “A movement will soon be launched against those who are involved in this conspiracy.”
He further stated that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami would announce its next stringent protest programme after hearing the official statement from the Election Commission.
