BNP Chairperson’s advisor Habibur Rahman Habib has said that Jamaat-e-Islami will never be able to come to power in Bangladesh, even if it waits for a hundred years.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion organized by the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Council (BCRC) at the National Press Club on Thursday, Habib strongly criticised Jamaat, stating that their efforts to destabilize elections will not succeed.

“If Jamaat-e-Islami attempts to sabotage the election process, the people of Bangladesh will send them to Pakistan,” said Habib.

Referring to the party’s historical stance during the Liberation War, he said, “Jamaat failed to preserve a united Pakistan in 1971, and they will also fail in their current attempts to disrupt elections in collaboration with others.”

He further added, “I appreciated what a young woman recently said — just because the Awami League is removed, it does not mean that Razakars (collaborators) will be allowed to take their place. That will never be accepted.”

Habib also called for the announcement of the national election date by February 12 under an interim government, emphasizing the need for a free, fair, and neutral election process.

The roundtable was held under the theme "July Declaration and Announcement of National Election Date: A Free, Fair, and Neutral Election is Our Expectation."
