Jamaat-NCP participating in election while being in power: Mirza Abbas
BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, Mirza Abbas, has alleged that Jamaat and its 'offspring' (NCP) have installed Dr. Yunus in power and are now participating in the election from that advantaged position. He claimed that the head of government himself has said that they put him there. Therefore, he alleged, Jamaat and the NCP are contesting the election from a position of power.
The BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency made these remarks at an exchange of views meeting at Motalib Plaza in the capital on Thursday evening.
Noting that one party could not accept 1971, he said the old vultures could not accept Bangladesh in 1971, and to this day, they have not accepted this country's independence and sovereignty. They are abusing the BNP with unspeakable language morning and evening. A clique is trying to disrupt the vote. This clique is not new. At this point, he urged workers and supporters to guard the polling centres.
Mirza Abbas said, "Jamaat and their offspring (NCP) have installed Dr. Yunus in power. The head of government himself has said they put him there. And so, Jamaat and the NCP are participating in the election from a position of power."
He further said, "Jamaat people within the administration can overturn the results of the people's vote. Some parties, in their greed for power, have made deals with foreigners."
This senior BNP leader alleged that efforts are underway to bring a particular party to power, and if that fails, they will sabotage the election.
Expressing concerns about vote rigging, he added, "One side can overturn the election results. I am seeing a severe risk of vote rigging. The BNP is a nationalist party; Ziaur Rahman was the proclaimer of independence—they cannot accept this."
He warned, "Do not deceive the people of this country. There is no gain in lies and conspiracies. We will not accept it. We will return home only with the election results."
Levelling accusations at the opposition, he said, "They want me to create a disturbance somewhere. But I will not do that. I do not want to create any disturbance before the election. If necessary, I will do it after the election."
