Jamaat's cyber terrorism must be stopped: State Minister Nur
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment State Minister Md Nurul Haque Nur has said that Jamaat-e-Islami's current political activities could lead the country towards a dangerous situation.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting organised by the Bangladesh Peshajibi Odhikar Parishad on the occasion of its fifth founding anniversary at the Shariful Kabir auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday.
Nur said social media has been turned into an anti-social medium under the patronage of Jamaat-e-Islami. Due to Jamaat's cyber attacks, many from the ruling party do not speak out, and many do not even have the courage to speak. This cyber terrorism must be stopped.
He said political differences on social media are natural. However, if leaders and activists of a political party open fake accounts, use obscene language and systematically attack others, that cannot be called politics of Islamic ideology. If Jamaat-e-Islami practices politics based on Islamic ideology, then the behaviour of its leaders and activists should reflect the teachings of Islam and the ideals of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). But the opposite picture is seen on social media.
The state minister said a strong network of Jamaat-Shibir has been created on social media at present. The government should take effective measures through state mechanisms to stop cyber propaganda and sabotage.
Referring to the role of various political parties, including the Gonoodhikar Parishad in the government, Nur said the government should properly evaluate its allies. If discontent grows among allies, it could create political risks.
He said when they protested on the streets, many stood with them. It is the government's responsibility to evaluate those who stood by during major political crises.
Claiming that propaganda was being spread against him and Gonoodhikar Parishad leaders and activists on social media, Nur said they would not be disturbed by such propaganda. No one would be able to show specific evidence of corruption against them since they took office.
He also expressed concern that a new political crisis could emerge in the country centring on Jamaat-Shibir politics ahead of the next election. In such a situation, Gonoodhikar Parishad will stand by the people and play its role. Wherever necessary in the interest of the country, they will speak out.
