Jamalpur AL Leader SM Shahin arrested in Uttara

Police have arrested SM Shahinuzzaman Shahin, a member of the Jamalpur district Awami League and an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary election, from Uttara in Dhaka.

Uttara West police arrested Shahin from an office in Sector 14 late Sunday night (September 13), Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials said.

Mirza Tareq Ahmed Beg, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Uttara Division, confirmed the arrest, saying Shahin is wanted in an abduction case filed with Airport Police Station.

Shahin contested the 2024 general election as an independent candidate for the Jamalpur-2 (Islampur) constituency, using the “scissors” electoral symbol. He is also a member of the Jamalpur district Awami League.

Police did not immediately provide further details about the allegations or the case.
