Jamiat protests US-Bangladesh trade deal
Jamiate Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh has staged a protest march in the capital against the trade agreement with the United States.
The protest was held after Juma prayers on Friday, May 15, from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
The programme was presided over by the organisation's senior vice-president Maulana Abdur Rob Yusufi. Speeches were delivered by secretary general Maulana Manjurul Islam Afendi, assistant secretary general Maulana Zainul Abedin, joint organising secretary Mufti Nasir Uddin Khan, Maulana Rashed Elias, Mufti Imranul Bari Siraji and other leaders.
The speakers expressed concerns over various aspects of the US-Bangladesh trade deal, stating that the people will not accept any agreement that undermines the country's economic independence, sovereignty and public interests.
They called upon the government to make decisions with caution and urged the public to remain united against any action that goes against the country's interests.
Religious scholars, students, the general public and leaders and activists of the organisation participated in the rally. A protest march later paraded through various streets of the capital.
