JaPa office vandalised, set on fire in capital
The Jatiya Party office in capital's Kakrail was vandalized and set on fire on Saturday evening (August 30) amid protests by leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad.
No party members were inside at the time, as the office was locked.
Police deployed baton charges, sound grenades, and water cannons to disperse protesters at the Jatiya Party Central Office and the Kakrail area.
Earlier in the day, Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders held a demonstration in Purana Paltan, demanding the resignation and accountability of the Home Affairs Adviser, formation of an investigation committee, and the banning of the Jatiya Party within 48 hours. Leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and AB Party also joined the rally.
Protesters blocked roads, including the 2 No Gate intersection, disrupting traffic to highlight their demands. Party leaders and activists burned tyres and chanted slogans against the Jatiya Party.
The unrest followed a nationwide demonstration by the party against the attack on its president, Nurul Haque Nur, during clashes in Bijoy Nagar on Friday night, during which law enforcement intervention left Nur injured.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue to manage the protests.
