Japa's income drops by 45 percent in one year

The financial condition of the Jatiya Party (Japa) has taken a significant hit in the post-July 2024 uprising political landscape. According to the audit report submitted to the Election Commission (EC), the party's income declined by nearly 45 percent over the course of one year. However, despite the drop in income, expenditure increased due to the elections.

A delegation led by the party's Additional Secretary General Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan submitted the audit report, signed by Japa Chairman GM Quader, to the EC on Sunday (July 26).

According to the report, Jatiya Party's total income in 2025 was Tk 1.82 crore, a decrease of approximately 45 percent from Tk 2.64 crore in 2024.

Meanwhile, total expenditure in 2025 stood at Tk 1.87 crore, compared to Tk 1.79 crore in the previous year. The party currently has Tk 78.61 lakh in its bank accounts, down from Tk 84.50 lakh the previous year.

After submitting the report, Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan told journalists that the party's expenditure increased slightly due to the elections. He said Jatiya Party had fielded candidates in 192 of the 300 parliamentary seats and spent Tk 5,00,500 on the election.

Regarding local government elections, he said although Jatiya Party candidates could not contest under the party symbol, party-backed independent candidates would contest and the party would support them.

On the arrest and trial of former president Mohammed Shahabuddin, he said the main question was whether he had committed any unconstitutional act while serving as president. The party has no separate comment on the matter.

Regarding internal conflicts within Jatiya Party following the fall of the Awami League government, he claimed that most of those who had left the party had returned under GM Quader's leadership and expressed hope that the party would perform well in the next elections.

Currently, 59 political parties are registered with the Election Commission. According to the law, registered parties must submit their audited accounts for the previous calendar year by July 31 each year. Failure to submit the report for three consecutive years gives the EC the authority to cancel the party's registration.
