Jatiya Party reports only Tk 5 lakh election spending to Election Commission
Jatiya Party has declared a total election expenditure of just Tk 5 lakh for the 13th parliamentary elections, according to a financial statement submitted to the Election Commission.
The expenditure report was submitted on Wednesday (May 13) by party Additional Secretary General Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan on behalf of Chairman GM Quader.
According to the submitted breakdown, the party spent Tk 3.25 lakh on campaign activities, Tk 1.15 lakh on public meetings, and Tk 65,000 on staff-related expenses.
The Jatiya Party fielded candidates in 196 constituencies in the February 12 election. Under electoral rules, political parties contesting 101 to 200 seats are allowed to spend up to Tk 3 crore on election activities.
However, the party report did not include any expenditure for financial support to individual candidates, a practice commonly followed by political parties during national elections.
The party said the election expenses were managed through a bank account at Prime Bank’s Banani branch, which currently holds Tk 66.24 million. It also stated that Tk 5.05 lakh was withdrawn from the account in April for election-related costs.
The disclosure comes a day after Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami submitted its election expenditure report, showing spending of around Tk 4.5 crore.
