Journalist Anis Alamgir denied bail
Journalist Anis Alamgir has been denied bail in an Anti-Terrorism Act case filed with the capital's Uttara West Police Station.
Dhaka's First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Alamgir issued the order after the hearing on Thursday (January 22).
The defendant's lawyer Taslima Jahan Popy confirmed the matter to the media.
During the hearing, defendant's lawyer said that the accused is completely innocent, respectful to the law and a permanent citizen of Bangladesh. He is not involved in the incident of the case. He has been implicated in the incident of the case for conspiracy and harassment. Although his name is in the complaint, there are no specific charges against him and he is not a worker or member of any political party.
She also said that Anis Alamgir is a prominent journalist, writer, intellectual and teacher. None of the sections in the complaint apply to him. Therefore, he is entitled to bail.
Earlier on December 14, Revolutionary Alliance organizer Aryan Ahmed filed this case with Uttara West Police Station. In addition to journalist Anis Alamgir, Meher Afroz Shaon was made an accused in this case. On December 15, the court put Anis Alamgir on a five-day remand in this case. After the remand, he was sent to jail on December 20. He has been in jail since then.
