Journalist Anis Alamgir placed on 5-day remand
A Dhaka court has ordered a five-day remand for senior journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The order was passed at around 6:00 pm on Monday, December 15, by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam.
Earlier, police had sought a seven-day remand. The remand petition was filed by Muniruzzaman, inspector of Uttara West Police Station and the investigating officer of the case.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the court granted a five-day remand.
Anis Alamgir was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch on December 14 after he left a gym in Dhanmondi 2 of the capital. He was later taken to the DB office for interrogation.
