Journalist Anis Alamgir still at DB office

Senior journalist Anis Alamgir is still at the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as of Monday morning, following overnight questioning, police officials said.

A senior DB official told the media that a decision regarding his status will be taken later.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Talebur Rahman confirmed his presence at the DB office.

Alamgir was taken to the DB office shortly after 1:15am early Monday (December 15). Earlier, at around 8:30pm on Sunday, he told reporters over the phone that he had been picked up from a gym in the Dhanmondi area.

According to Alamgir, DB officials said their chief wanted to speak with him.

He said he was brought from Dhanmondi around 7:30pm and reached the DB office by 8:00pm, where he had been waiting since then. At the time of his statement, he had not yet spoken with the DB chief.

Anis Alamgir is a veteran journalist who has worked with several media outlets, including Ajker Kagoj. In recent months, he has frequently appeared on television talk shows, drawing public attention for his outspoken comments.
