Journalist attacked during Martyred Intellectuals Day tribute in Mirpur

In a shocking incident at Dhaka’s Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial on Sunday (December 14), a journalist came under a violent attack during the solemn Martyred Intellectuals Day tribute.

A video of the assault quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention.

Footage shows a young man charging at the journalist, forcefully grabbing and twisting their arm, before attempting to flee. Police swiftly intervened, detaining the assailant, while an agitated crowd tried to take matters into their own hands. Authorities managed to regain control and prevent further escalation.

Details about both the journalist and the attacker remain unclear.

Earlier in the morning, President Mohammed Shahabuddin laid a wreath at the memorial at 7:00am, followed by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at 7:20am, as the nation honoured the memory of its fallen heroes.
