Journalist Farzana Rupa falls ill, hospitalised

Journalist Farzana Rupa has been admitted to Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) as she suddenly fell ill inside prison. She is currently undergoing treatment there.

Munshiganj District Jail Superintendent Md Jannat-ul Farhad confirmed the matter, saying that Farzana Rupa was admitted to BMU on Sunday evening after developing health complications.

Earlier on August 21, 2024, Farzana Rupa and her husband Shakil Ahmed were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The following day, on August 22, a court put them on a four-day remand in a murder case filed over the killing of Fazlul Karim. They were later shown arrested in several cases related to the July uprising and sent on remand multiple times.

Most recently, Farzana Rupa and another journalist, Mozammel Haque Babu, were shown arrested in the Shapla Chattar murder case.
