Journalist Mahmudur Rahman sent to prison
Mahmudur Rahman, the acting editor of Dainik Amar Desh Patrika, has been ordered by the court to serve time in prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to kidnap and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
His lawyers, Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah and Sheikh Shakil Ahmed Ripon, confirmed.
On Sunday (September 29), Rahman surrendered to Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque's court and requested bail.
Rahman had recently returned to Bangladesh from Turkey on September 27. Previously, he held prominent positions in the BNP government, including chairman of the investment board and state minister, before transitioning to journalism.
He has been serving as the acting editor of Amar Desh, one of the country's most widely read newspapers.
