Journalists’ dismissal undesirable: Info Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the termination of journalists is “not desirable under any circumstances,” adding that the government will hold discussions with the television authorities concerned over the matter.

He made the remarks during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday (February 19).

The minister also announced that Family Cards will be distributed before Eid, noting that every female household member will gradually be brought under the programme. To implement the initiative, a committee will be formed under the leadership of the finance minister, with a target of including 50 million families in phases.

Recently, the dismissal of several journalists from a private television channel sparked widespread debate on social media, drawing public attention to the issue.
