Journo dies while covering DUCSU poll
A journalist died while on duty covering the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, Tarikul Shibli, 40, was a city reporter for Channel S Television. He collapsed while reporting live from Curzon Hall around 1:30 p.m, according to his colleagues.
Fellow journalist Sohel Rana, who was on-site, said Shibli suddenly lost consciousness during a live broadcast. He was immediately rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Tarikul Shibli hailed from Burichong upazila in Cumilla and was residing in Diabari, Uttara, Dhaka. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue, and the local police station has been notified.
Doctors suspect cardiac arrest as the preliminary cause of death. However, the exact cause will be confirmed following an autopsy report.
