JU Chhatra Dal protests against alleged propaganda by Shibir

Leaders and activists of Jahangirnagar University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today brought out a protest procession, alleging propaganda, staged disappearance incidents, violence against women and rape-related accusations involving Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The procession began in the university transport area around 4:00 pm and marched through several key roads on the campus before ending with a brief rally at the foot of the Central Shaheed Minar.

During the programme, protesters chanted slogans criticizing the student organization and called for an end to misinformation campaigns.

Speaking at the rally, JU JCD Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik said enforced disappearance is a serious human rights violation, but alleged that some groups were attempting to create confusion by staging incidents to discredit political opponents.

He said the matter should be properly investigated and those responsible brought to justice, stressing the need for accountability.

Anik also urged student organizations to engage in constructive politics, saying campus politics should remain open and competitive rather than being driven by propaganda and character assassination.

JU JCD Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babar also addressed the rally, alleging that attempts to build unity in student politics after the August 5 mass uprising were being undermined.

He claimed that Shibir activists were continuing propaganda against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its student wing JCD, saying such actions were destroying opportunities for democratic and united student politics.

Babar also referred to a recent comment by a Shibir leader regarding BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, saying it could create instability in the campus environment.

He urged all student organizations to avoid confrontational politics and called for mutual respect and coexistence in campus activities.
