Jubo Moitree’s concern, protest over Oprotim murder incident

Bangladesh Jubo Moitree has expressed deep concern, grief and protest over the murder of Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim, son of a teacher of Cumilla University. President of the organization Touhidur Rahman and general secretary Tapas Das expressed this protest in a joint statement on Saturday.

In the statement the leaders said a child having to lose life becoming a victim of terror and violence is extremely concerning not only for his family but also for the whole society and the state. They also commented that not being able to ensure the security of children is a matter of deep shame for the state and society.

They said ensuring the security of citizens’ lives is one of the fundamental responsibilities of the state. But in the current situation guardians have to remain worried about whether a child will return safely after going out of the house. If any criminal gets the opportunity to remain outside the purview of law due to political, social or any other influence, people’s confidence in the rule of law and justice is damaged.

The leaders of Jubo Moitree further said such crimes spread when people’s lives and human relations lose importance before greed, consumption, profit and personal interest. According to them the murder of Oprotim is a ruthless example of the existing degradation in society. Whatever the identity or influence of the criminal may be, he must be brought under the law and faced with trial.

In the statement demand was raised for quickly identifying and arresting every person involved with the Oprotim murder and ensuring exemplary punishment through trial as per law. At the same time the organization called for taking effective steps to ensure the security of children and general people.

The leaders said they want such a Bangladesh where every child and citizen will be able to live life safely. Security of people’s lives is not any favour, it is a fundamental right of the citizen. They demanded ensuring proper investigation and trial of the Oprotim murder.
