Citing lack of coordination in performing duties and administrative interference, Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) Cultural Secretary Muhibullah Sheikh Jisan has resigned. He submitted his resignation letter to JUCSU President and University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan on Sunday. Earlier, he had announced his resignation through a post on social media.

In his resignation letter, Jisan alleged that decisions regarding various cultural activities were taken without proper coordination with him, his decisions were overruled, and as an elected representative, he was consistently denied the opportunity to perform his duties independently and the necessary institutional respect due to administrative influence.

He further said that in a recent central cultural programme, his decisions regarding the selection of hosts and programme management were changed. During the event, he was forced to announce the names of specific individuals at the behest of the administration and faculty members. The resulting commotion left him frustrated. He also alleged that he was pressured to apologise on stage for the incident later.

Jisan said an elected student representative cannot work under the influence of any individual, group or political interest.

Explaining the reasons for his resignation, he said that under the current circumstances, it is not possible for him to continue in this position while compromising his principles, freedom and self-respect. He has therefore decided to voluntarily step down from the post of JUCSU Cultural Secretary.

It is learned that on the night of August 6, a programme was organised at Jahangirnagar University's Selim Al-Deen Muktamancha to celebrate the July mass uprising, featuring a performance by musician Asif Akbar.

Allegations have surfaced that JUCSU Cultural Secretary Muhibullah Sheikh Jisan was not given the responsibility of hosting that programme. Instead, JUCSU Social Service Secretary Ahsan Labib hosted the event.

It is also known that commotion arose during the programme over the announcement of the names of JUCSU Vice-President, Chhatra Dal convener and several other Chhatra Dal leaders. Jisan was reportedly forced to apologise over this incident.
