Abdur Rashid Jitu, Vice-President (VP) of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Several leaders from different JUCSU hall unions have also joined the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal.

They were formally welcomed into the party at a press conference held on Friday morning at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan in the capital.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, along with the president and general secretary of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal and other senior party leaders, were present at the event.

Speaking at the press conference, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party expects the new members to play an important role in strengthening BNP and the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal.

Among the JUCSU leaders who have joined the BNP are seven vice-presidents (VPs), three general secretaries (GSs), and one assistant general secretary (AGS) from various hall unions.

Abdur Rashid Jitu was elected VP from the ‘Swatantra Shikkharthi Sammilan’ panel in the JUCSU election held in September last year.

Explaining his decision to join the BNP, Jitu said he wants to work with those who uphold the spirit of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War, the 1990 anti-autocracy movement, and the mass uprising. He said the BNP believes in these principles.

He further said there is no alternative to the BNP in building a happy and prosperous nation, adding that only the BNP can change the fate of the people. He said the BNP’s work with the youth has inspired him and that he will work for the party in the future.
