July uprising: verdict in Inu’s Kushtia murder case on June 30
The court has fixed June 30 as the date for the verdict against Hasanul Haq Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, in the case of crimes against humanity in the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July uprising.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury set the date on Monday (June 22). Earlier, the tribunal had waited to set the date for the verdict after presenting arguments from both sides on May 14.
While presenting arguments in the court today, the state's lawyer, Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam, demanded the maximum punishment for the accused. On the other hand, the defense lawyers requested that Inu be acquitted.
According to the case documents, a case was filed against him on charges of crimes against humanity in the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July uprising in 2024. Eight specific charges have been brought in the case. The deceased include workers Ashraful Islam, Suruj Ali Babu, students Abdullah Al Mustaqin, Usama, businessman Bablu Farazi and employee Yusuf Sheikh.
Hasanul Haq Inu was arrested from Uttara in the capital on August 26, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government. Later, the tribunal framed charges and ordered the trial to begin on November 2.
