Members of the Warriors of July movement have staged a sit-in at the south gate of the National Parliament complex demanding state recognition for those injured during the July uprising and their designation as “July Freedom Heroes.”

The protest began around 11:45am on Friday (October 17) after police prevented the group from entering the Parliament premises.

The organisation placed three key demands — granting legal protection and social security for the injured, officially recognizing them as “July Freedom Heroes,” and incorporating these commitments into the ‘July National Charter 2025’ for swift implementation.

Injured protester Jihad Hasan said, “Clause 5 of the Charter mentions all killings during the uprising, but the term ‘all killings’ remains ambiguous. The injured must also be brought under state support and protection alongside the families of the martyrs.”

He added that although the group raised objections before the Commission, they were told amendments were no longer possible. Their demands have since been conveyed to several political parties, with BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed reportedly pledging to raise the issue with the government.

The July Warriors vowed to continue their sit-in until their demands are met.
