Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will serve as the acting Chief Justice (CJ) from April 9-16, 2026, as Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury is scheduled to travel to Malaysia and Singapore. "During this period, or until Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury resumes office, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam will discharge the duties of the Chief Justice," said a notice issued by the Law and Justice Division. The notice stated that Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, the senior-most judge of the Appellate Division, has received the President's approval to perform the functions of the Chief Justice in accordance with Article 97 of the Constitution.

প্রধান বিচারপতির বিদেশ সফরকালে তার দায়িত্ব পালন করবেন আপিল বিভাগের সিনিয়র বিচারপতি মো. আশফাকুল ইসলাম। আজ বৃহস্পতিবার আইন, বিচার ও সংসদ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের আইন ও বিচার বিভাগ থেকে জারি করা এক প্রজ্ঞাপনে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। প্রজ্ঞাপনে বলা হয়, প্রধান বিচারপতি জুবায়ের রহমান চৌধুরী মালয়েশিয়া ও সিঙ্গাপুর সফরে থাকবেন। তার অনুপস্থিতিতে ৯ এপ্রিল থেকে ১৬ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ পর্যন্ত, অথবা তিনি পুনরায় দায়িত্ব না নেওয়া পর্যন্ত, আপিল বিভাগের প্রবীণতম বিচারপতি মো. আশফাকুল ইসলাম প্রধান বিচারপতির কার্যভার পালন করবেন। সংবিধানের ৯৭ অনুচ্ছেদ অনুযায়ী রাষ্ট্রপতি এ বিষয়ে অনুমোদন দিয়েছেন।
