Justice Farah Mahbub urge journos to play active role in implementing roadmap on legal reforms
A day-long workshop titled 'Capacity Building workshop for Law Reporters Forum' organized by National Institute of Mass Communication was held on Thursday at the conference room of NIMC in the capital.
Justice Farah Mahbub was present as the chief guest at the workshop. At the occasion she called on the journalists of the 'Law' Reporters Forum, including the print and electronic media, to play an active role in implementing the roadmap on legal reforms proposed by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed to provide judicial services to the public. She expressed hope that effective strategies will be determined in today's workshop on the effective aspects of reporting to ensure the legal rights of the people.
UNDP-Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Liller and Head of Mission of the Swedish Embassy Maria Stridesman were present as special guests at the workshop chaired by Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Information Secretary said that the role of law reporters is very important in strengthening the existing legal framework of the country. He expressed hope that the role of media workers and law reporters will be helpful in the ongoing legal reform process.
The special guests said that UNDP and the Swedish Embassy are working together to increase public awareness on the implementation of the proposed legal reform roadmap to maintain the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.
The day-long workshop, moderated by Uchio Tanjim Tamanna, Assistant Director of the National Media Institute, was moderated by Muazzem Hossain, Special Officer of the Supreme Court and Head of the Implementation of the Roadmap for Legal Reforms, NIMC Director Dr. Md. Maruf Nawaz, Lecturer at Int'l University Ali Mashraf, Associate Professor at Daffodil International University and Mobile Journalism Expert Dr Kabil Khan.
Among others, representatives of the Law Reporters Forum and Supreme Court, journalists from electronic and print media, UNDP Bangladesh Assistant Resident Representative Anwarul Haque, UNDP Bangladesh Head of Communications Abdul Qayyum, NIMC officials and Workshop Director Sumona Parveen were present at the workshop.
A total of 45 delegates participated in the day-long workshop.
